G-HILZ.co.uk - the story of an RV8

Building - assembling in the marquee

We decided that it would be beneficial to completely assemble the aeroplane at home. By doing this we saved time at the final build destaination (North Weald, an hour and a half drive time away). Everything was documented and the bolts etc bagged up and labelled. We borrowed two marquees from Alex (thanks!) and the aeroplane fitted in perfectly. It was Wimbledon week, and as advertised, it rained for much of the week....

Attaching the empennage .
  Empennage and wings on

Attaching the wingtips - we riveted them on and then glassed over the join
The left wingtip needed surgery to get it to align perfectly.

The two marquees were ideal for an RV-8
Sunny day with the doors open...

... and a rainy day, all closed up (it was Wimbledon week 2007)
Still ok to work on inside though.
