G-HILZ.co.uk - the story of our RV-8

G-HILZ

This is the story, in photos, of our project to build and fly our Vans RV-8 G-HILZ.
We started in early November 2005 and the first flight was on 29th October 2007 - a 'quick build' flying aeroplane in just under two years.
This is not a 'how to build an RV' site, just a record of building our aeroplane and the fun we now have with it. Be inspired! We are now repeat offenders as we have an RV-3B under (slow!) construction.
Thanks to all of you who helped us along the way and to Van's for designing such a delightful aeroplane

RV Formation School at North Weald

We will continue to organise one weekend day each month, based out of North Weald. No prior experience is necessary - you'll be taught by current and ex-RAF instructors or highly experienced formation display pilots.

The RV story

The RV series of home built kit aircraft come from Oregon in USA. The series was started with the RV3, a single seat taildragger designed by Dick Van Grunsven. Over time and by customer demand, the kit aeroplanes available to build grew from the RV3 to encompass both tail wheel and nose wheel types ('A' versions), tandem and side-by-side two seaters and the 4 seat RV-10. You can choose either the 'Standard Build' (you do it all!) or the 'Quick Build' (you build 51% to meet regulations).
